Evaluating Impact Training Module 2: The Nuts and Bolts of Evaluation - What to evaluate and how

Evaluating Impact Training Programme is aimed at project staff, service leads, evaluation teams and funders in the public and community & voluntary /non-profit sectors who are delivering services to benefit communities and want to demonstrate the impact of their work.

It has been designed for those who need to understand the basics of evaluation and for those who need skills to design impact measurement frameworks, collect and analyse relevant data and report on the findings.

In the second of 4 modules, this training course will build on the learning from 'Module 1: An introduction to Evaluation - Understanding the Essentials' , by exploring evaluation processes in more detail. You will find out more about how to gather the right data and evidence of your impact, the best way of analysing and interpreting the evidence, and how to create a plan to measure your impact.

  • Asking the right questions
  • Data gathering methods
  • Qualitative and quantitative evaluation: choosing the right method for the situation
  • Developing an evaluation plan

Who is it suited to?

This module is suitable for project staff and service leads who understand outcomes and indicators and who plan service evaluation activities.

What will you learn?

  • The skills to choose the right evaluation method at different stages of your work
  • An understanding of how to develop an evaluation plan.
  • A workbook containing resources and templates.

You will develop a series of resources to support your evaluation, including:

  • Data collection tools
  • Identification of evaluation stakeholders
  • Articulation of your evaluation aim and the key questions it will address
  • Data collection planning

How will you learn?

Participants will be guided through a series of slides which provide comprehensive and expert knowledge on good evaluation practice.

The training includes workbooks with practical exercises to complete, accompanied by resources and templates to help you apply the learning to your own organisation or service.
